Synthesis and catalytic applications of Ru(II)-phosphaurotropine complexes with the use of simple water-soluble Ru(II)-precursors

1,3,5-Triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (pta, phosphaurotropine) played a special role in the development of aqueous organometallic chemistry and catalysis. The main reason is its easy synthesis, oxidation stability, versatile possibilities functionalization, high solubility not only water but also several common organic solvents. Such favourable behaviour allowed straightforward synthesis pta-containing transition metal complexes from simple, inexpensive, often commercial starting materials. A further advantage pta their pronounced tendency to crystallize which determination solid-state structures great number such compounds. This review covers synthetic procedures ruthenium(II)-complexes with pta, N-alkyl-pta derivatives as ligands, well most important reactions systems. Ru(II)-pta were employed catalysts aqueous-phase processes selective hydrogenation transfer aldehydes, hydration nitriles, redox isomerization allylic alcohols. Hydrogenation carbon dioxide/bicarbonate dehydrogenation formic acid/aqueous formate studied various Ru(II)-complexes phosphaurotropines. Altogether results described this made significant positive impact on green chemical processes.
